When it comes to a romantic date, you need a setting to match. Accessories can very often add to the romantic ambiance. Things just get more romantic when there are flowers and candlelight.

Maybe it’s because the flickering glow of a candle relaxes you that it feels so romantic. What could heighten the mood and the senses is to have candles that are fragrant and colored. Alluring as these may be, they can turn out to be costly when used on a regular basis. The one way to enjoy these candles on a regular basis is to make them yourself.

You need to gather all your old candles and melt them over boiling water. The boiling water melts the wax through the double boiler without burning the wax. If you do not have enough old candles, buying new ones in bulk quantities will keep the total cost down and will definitely be cheaper than the exorbitant price charged in stores.

Aluminum moulds are the best even though they turn hot as you pour hot wax in them. Old glasses and disposable paper cups can be used for simple tumbler-look varieties.

Make the wick by taking out one from an old candle or using white cotton straw. Make sure that you rub enough wax on the straw to make it taut as this will make it easy for you to insert in the melted wax once you have placed the wax in the mould. Add the desired oil color into the melted wax and be sure to add the color slowly and mix thoroughly so that you know when to stop. Empty the melted wax in the mould and put the wick in the middle and make sure that it goes right down slowly.

In the event that you want your candles to consist of different layers of colors, then you are going to need to melt the wax in some different containers and then add all of the appropriate colors to each of the lots. Make absolutely sure that the mould that you have selected to use for the multicolored candles is tall and allows all of the layers to show, the way that you pour all of the different colors is very important as well. You should pour each color of wax after the color before has cooled off. A horrible colored lump may form with all the colors mixed up if this is not taken care of.

Fragrant candles can be made by adding fragrance oils to the hot wax after the coloring process.

The oil-based fragrances like the floral ones of jasmine and rose and the others such as tea tree, lemon grass and musk are easily available in the market. Once the color, the fragrance and the wick have all been added to the candle, you should place the mould in your freezer so that it is allowed to easily come out, and you are all finished.
