Additionally, many people suffering from neck & back pain have found neck pillows to be very useful in providing a more stabilizing position for their head. These neck pillows, commonly called “U” shaped neck pillow support the neck and provide a deep area for the head to rest and additionally offer a supportive area to keep the neck in alignment with the spine while sleeping.

These pillows specifically designed for the neck are usually shaped like the letter “U” and slide around the user’s neck with the open end of the pillow facing the front. These neck-specific pillows aim to offer orthopedic support, spine alignment, reduce pain in the neck and back and overall make it easier to fall asleep in settings and circumstances that otherwise would be less accommodating. Neck pillows have shown to greatly reduce pain associated with the neck and back.

These “U” shaped neck pillows are primarily used when sitting up. The user in an upright position simply slides the pillow around the neck to prop up and support their head as they sleep which ideally results in a properly aligned spine and in turn promotes a mort comfortable sleep for those with neck and back injuries or those traveling.

There are two basic structures for a neck pillow. There is the “U” shaped neck pillow was mentioned before and there is the cervical neck pillow. Both of these pillows support the neck and head, but each approaches the neck support in a different way. The “U” shaped neck pillow is usually used when the user is sitting up, whereas the cervical neck pillow is generally used when the user is lying down. The cervical neck pillow provides the user with direct neck support and provides a cradle for the head.

When traveling the “U” shaped neck pillow is used more often due to the fact that it promotes sleeping in a sitting position. Its design results in a more comfortable easily obtained sleep. In addition, many of the same principles that are implemented for those using neck pillows for medicinal and orthopedic support are used to reduce the pains and stress commonly found after an uncomfortable sleep? or an attempted sleep while traveling.

But the simple explanation as to why it is people use neck pillows is simple; neck pillows simply make sleeping while traveling easier. Neck pillows support for the entire head in a stable way that may not be easy to find while traveling. Individuals who have used neck pillows while traveling tend to be very loyal to them, some stating they would not be able to travel without their neck pillow.

As mentioned previously, many different versions of the “U” shaped neck pillow have made their way to the public eye, but in general, each one has been about the same. But recently a modified version of the “U” shaped neck pillow was created; the travel COZY. This neck pillow not only supports your head and neck, but also provides support for your arms, shoulders and back. This additional support is found with the use of the arm hammock which connects to the pillow. Users of the travel COZY find that they feel more secure and comfortable. The main goal of any kind of neck pillow is to provide support for the head and neck and to maintain correct position of the spine, the travel COZY does this PLUS offers support for the arms and back.
